Recently, British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group announced the latest cooperation results, launching the LEGO® Technic™ McLaren P1™, paying tribute to the world's most groundbreaking hybrid supercar.
As part of the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, the new 1:8 scale LEGO Technic version consists of 3,893 elements, and each car has a unique serial number that unlocks special behind-the-scenes content. The model features a 7-speed gearbox and 2 shift drums, suspension, V8 piston engine, adjustable rear wing and openable dihedral doors with advanced mechanisms - all of which guarantee an immersive building experience from start to finish, as real as the real McLaren P1™.
Packaging
The main picture on the front of the color box is a photo of the rear of the prototype car, and the finished building block work is arranged on the back, while the others continue the consistent style of the LEGO set.
Internal box
After opening the lid, an inner cover with a top view of the prototype car is revealed. There are three inner boxes inside the lid. The bottom layer contains two building manuals. When you put them together, you can get a complete prototype car color map. The inner box is in the form of an airplane box with a handle in the middle for easy pulling out.
The manual has 36 pages of color pictures, which are concise and clear, and details the prototype car, track results, other McLaren models, and the design of building blocks.
Highlights
The model uses an advanced mechanism to simulate the opening of the dihedral door.
"Therefore, we designed a variety of models to test different designs. The iconic butterfly doors also posed a great challenge for us because they required a new mechanism to stay open. Rebuilding the McLaren P1™ was a great experience, and I hope all supercar enthusiasts are ready to explore the details and complexity of the real McLaren P1™ in LEGO Technic form."

New part
Here are five new moulds we managed to spot in the images of the set and its prototypes, but perhaps there are even more buried within the model?
This pair of bright orange curved Technic panels are 13 modules long with a tapered sail set at an angle and are new molds. We can see two pairs used on the model, one behind the front and rear fenders. The curves match the curves of the fenders.
The rear fenders are a completely new mold, one module higher than the existing 15 wide arched fenders (part 67141). The front fenders are recolored with the bright orange panel car fender arches 13 x 2 x 5 arched tops (80284).
