As the holiday season approaches, LEGO continues its beloved Winter Village series with the release of the all-new Santa’s Workshop (LEGO Icons 10308). This set not only brings LEGO enthusiasts the rich festive atmosphere of the season but also immerses them in the magical world of the North Pole, capturing the endless charm of Christmas.

The Santa’s Workshop set features exquisite design, faithfully recreating Santa’s workshop adorned with festive decorations and intricate details. Bright reds, greens, and golds interweave to create a warm holiday ambiance, making the entire set look both classic and vibrant.

The highlight of this set lies not only in its adorable appearance but also in its stunning details and features. Inside the workshop, Christmas elements abound—from the cozy fireplace to the gift-laden workbench, every corner showcases meticulous design and creativity. Particularly, the work area for Santa and his elves brims with fairy-tale charm, allowing adults to relive the joy of childhood while sparking imaginative Christmas experiences for children.

For LEGO fans, this Santa’s Workshop set is more than just a decorative piece; it’s a valuable holiday-themed collectible.

Its intricate brickwork and imaginative design make it a significant addition to the Winter Village series.

It perfectly complements the atmosphere of family gatherings and holiday celebrations, making it ideal as a Christmas decoration, gift, or centerpiece for family activities—and even earning a spot as the "set of the year" for many LEGO enthusiasts.

Packaging Contents

This year’s premium LEGO sets continue to maintain format stability with a strong focus on detail. For the “Two Pines Inn,” the top of the box features an image of two small pine trees, conveying a cozy atmosphere.

In the Santa’s Workshop set, classic LEGO mailbox logos are cleverly used, adorned with holly to enhance the festive feel, showcasing LEGO’s refined interpretation of the holiday theme. Each detail reflects the high-end market’s emphasis on aesthetics and emotion, especially the design on the back of the box. It not only displays the play features but also cleverly arranges light bricks to create depth, making the entire set more layered.

What catches the eye is the “suspiciously cozy open-back design” on the box’s back, providing an open and inviting feel, reminiscent of the world’s largest mail sorting facility—demonstrating LEGO’s utmost pursuit of detail. Unfortunately, while the internal content is meticulously crafted, the packaging design did not adopt a new lift-off lid box. Instead, it continues with the standard thumb notch. While this design still effectively protects the contents, it lacks some modern flair and innovative elements compared to the lift-off lid box.

Inside the kit, everything is neatly organized. It includes 10 numbered bags, 2 detailed instruction books, and a small sticker sheet. A booklet provides detailed instructions for several smaller side builds, while a larger booklet outlines the build steps for the workshop and hot air balloon. The numbered bags help keep the assembly process orderly, enhancing the fluidity of the build experience.

A brief introduction in the instruction booklet is filled with festive greetings, making the first intimate encounter with Santa’s workshop feel special. It reads, “Holiday wishes flood in, and Santa responds with joyful cheer.” This passage not only captures the warmth of Christmas but also evokes memories of childhood—a time when children wrote letters to Santa not just for gifts but to establish an emotional connection, eagerly awaiting a warm response.

Mini Figures

Santa Claus

Santa Claus has appeared twice in the Winter Village series. His first appearance was in 10293 Santa’s Visit, where he wore a printed hat. This time, he features a classic dual-molded hat, which, despite its similar appearance, is a significant update. Santa’s image is highly detailed, with dual-molded legs and black boots that are designed uniquely to keep his feet dry when wading into the North Atlantic to retrieve mail.

His torso is adorned with appropriate fur trim and a metallic gold belt buckle, enhancing the overall look and aligning with the festive Christmas vibe. Although this Santa does not feature the older mini-figure’s glasses design, the overall design still brings a sense of nostalgia and complements the set well.

Four Elves

The design of the four elves is mostly the same, with the main differences being in the heads and accessories. Each elf’s torso features the iconic Arctic postmark, a distinctive detail that sets them apart from previous assistants. They are dressed in unique uniforms, highlighting their role as postal workers. The return of the golden trumpet badge design adds a lot of detail and sophistication.

One pair of elves wears a pilot helmet and an outdoor working scarf, showing the different roles and responsibilities they have in the workshop. The elves’ bright green hats and molded ears design are consistent with the mini figures in 10275 Elf Club House, maintaining the continuity of the series and creating a harmonious look through the use of both green and bright green.

Two of the elves have dual-sided heads; however, their expressions do not feature any new or innovative changes. The set also includes various accessories, such as a transparent red spearhead as a special detail, reminiscent of previous appearances in Speed Champions sets, adding a touch of fun and playfulness.

Build

The building process is primarily divided into two parts—outdoor scenery and the post office building itself, with distinct layouts.

Outdoor Scenery

First, you need to craft a mini landscape that complements the Santa’s Workshop. LEGO has carefully designed three iconic holiday scenes, each occupying three large quarter plates.

One is a signpost with three signs reading “post,” “club house,” and “workshop,” directing to the previous Winter Village sets, including the Santa’s Workshop released in 2014 and the Elf Club House in 2020. Below is a mini red mailbox where any letters can be placed.

Another scene is an ice fishing hole, with a hook lifting up a lost letter (no one knows who misplaced it here), and catching a small teal fish, guarded by a heartwarming seal—these details are both cute and charming.

The final scene features a Christmas tree, another traditional element of Winter Village sets, with a design that’s always varied. This example is quite basic, made up of 1x2 and 1x3 curved outer arch branches. The decorations and gifts placed below are also very appealing, adding more color to the scene. A sleigh, utilizing hockey sticks as runners, is included here—similar to the black-only option in the 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure set. Elves can ride the sleigh, and there is enough space to place gifts and letters.

Another mini model is a vibrant small sorting machine, with yellow, blue, red, and green elements interplaying. Inside the machine, a movable platform sorts letters, and when a letter is placed in, it is sorted into one of the small carts. There are two carts—red and green—which may be used to distinguish which letters are junk mail and which are for Santa to read, though this is just speculation on my part. Notably, the sorting machine can be affixed to the back of the post office, becoming a major play feature of the set.

Next, we turn our attention to the independent hot air balloon, a component worth highlighting. It is predominantly green and gold, perfectly capturing the festive Christmas atmosphere. Similar to past LEGO hot air balloons, this set uses large curved panels to create the balloon part. Below is a light brick, and inside the balloon, a rod activates a “flame” powered by the light brick. At the bottom, there is a small red basket attached to a rotating rod, allowing it to be tilted into the post office’s letter slot for delivery.

Post Office

This leads into the main part of the scenery—the post office. Like other Winter Village sets, it features a beautifully detailed front façade and an open-back design for easy access to the interior of the building.

This design strikes a good balance between providing display function and playability. The building’s exterior, while not prominently featuring a post office sign, retains some symbolism with elements like a 3D version of a bugle, a design used in other postal-themed sets. Each roof is covered in thick snow, creating a wintery atmosphere that feels more natural than randomly distributed white plates.

The roof design is clever, easy to remove. The small roof over the entrance and the larger roof section of the main building can be directly inserted into the structure, without additional clutch power connections. Despite not having physical locks, these roof sections are securely fixed in place, maintaining the building’s stability. On the left side of the building is a square platform for the hot air balloon’s landing, making it an ideal feature for the post office.

Although it doesn’t look like a traditional post office from the outside, the interior is filled with postal-themed elements. The building includes a chute system that extends from the top floor to the central chute below, guiding letters towards the sorting machine. The sorting machine is connected to the outside world through jumper plates along the building’s edge. The right side chute leads to the balloon landing platform, and another chute comes from a special room where it appears Santa writes his letters, serving as the starting point for outgoing mail.

The sorting machine plays a crucial role, receiving both external and internal mail. The lower level of the building is divided into three zones. On the left is a living room where Santa can sit by the fireplace and read the letters he receives, adding a warm, homely feel to the scenery. The central section is the core postal operation area, equipped with chutes and postal trays, acting as a key node in mail circulation.

The room on the right is the elves’ rest area, decorated with everyday details like a coffee machine, portraying a relaxed post-work atmosphere. This area also serves as a storage space, piled with various letters, creating a busy yet cozy scene. These designs make the entire scenery both engaging and functional.

Overall, this post office scenery strikes a perfect balance between display and interaction through clever detail design. Whether it’s the inclusion of the hot.

Disadvantages and advantages

Advantages

1. Strong festive atmosphere
The model design is full of Christmas elements, such as snow-covered roofs, gifts, postmen and Christmas decorations, which is particularly suitable for holiday decoration.
2. Exquisite detail design
The interior of the post office is rich in details, including letter sorting desks, fireplaces, and gift piles, which increases playability and viewing.
3. Strong compatibility
It can be perfectly matched with other winter village series sets (such as winter market and Christmas train) to form a complete winter village theme.
4. Excellent display effect
The model has soft colors and clear themes, which is suitable for indoor Christmas decoration. It works better with lighting kits (such as BrickBling lighting kits).
5. Emotional resonance
The design with the theme of Christmas post office evokes people's nostalgia for traditional holiday communication methods, while increasing the symbolic meaning of family affection and warmth.

Disadvantages

1. Higher price
Compared with other Christmas theme sets, this post office may be expensive, especially for players with limited budgets.
2. Lower difficulty in assembly
The model is aimed at a wider audience, so the assembly is not challenging enough, which may make players who like complex assembly feel unsatisfied.
3. Small size
The size is relatively compact. If displayed alone, the scene may appear to be relatively isolated, and it needs to be matched with other sets to increase the richness.
4. Lack of innovative gameplay
The functions are mainly static displays, and there are fewer interactive and dynamic gameplay designs, such as the lack of moving parts or special mechanical functions.
5. Seasonal restrictions
The theme tends to be winter and Christmas, and may lack the applicability of display during non-holiday periods.
