With Christmas approaching, we can once again enjoy the classic and hilarious movie Home Alone, a beloved film among fans. To celebrate, LEGO has released a Home Alone set.

The set features 3,955 pieces and is packed with rich details, making it perfect for reliving iconic moments from the movie. It includes scenes where Kevin uses numerous traps around the house to outsmart the burglars, along with various fun pranks.

This holiday gem is sure to be something you'll love. Now, let's take a closer look at it!

Package Contents

The packaging box design comprehensively showcases the product’s contents and details. The front displays all the buildable elements in the box, including the iconic scenes of “Kevin’s House,” the treehouse, and the getaway vehicle driven by the bumbling burglars, Marvin and Harry. With a total of 3,955 LEGO pieces, this set allows for enhanced detail. In the top-right corner, the package features the “Home Alone” logo, clearly indicating that this product belongs to the LEGO IDEAS series as set #38, adding to its collectible and aesthetic value.

The back of the box uses a side-opening display to show the detailed scene settings of “Kevin’s House,” presenting this classic scene from different angles, encouraging consumers to explore and enjoy every detail. The sides of the box are illustrated with LEGO-style depictions of the main characters—Kevin, the clever young boy, along with the comedic duo Marvin and Harry—making the packaging more playful and nostalgic.

The instruction manual cover is inspired by Kevin’s “battle plan,” which adds a playful and story-rich touch. Inside, the manual provides detailed explanations of the set’s various mechanisms and interactive features, allowing consumers to relive classic movie moments while building. It also includes the story of the original creator, Adwind, who received 10,000 votes on the LEGO IDEAS platform, highlighting the creativity and community support behind this product.

The included sticker sheet is vibrant, detailed, and rich with references to the movie. The sticker designs cleverly capture details from the film, with one special “Jordan standee” sticker where the original “BULL” logo has been changed to “BRICKS,” giving a playful LEGO-style nod to the iconic detail, enhancing the fun for collectors and decorators alike.

Minifigures

1.Kevin McCallister

Unsurprisingly, Kevin is the central figure among the five minifigures, as the entire movie revolves around him. Let’s start by taking a closer look at Kevin.
Kevin wears a gray hat and a dark red scarf, creating a festive, Christmas vibe. His youthful face and blonde hair make him look adorable. A fun contrast is that he has medium-length legs, allowing his movie mischief to be easily recreated.

2.Kate McCallister

Kevin’s mother is accurately represented, matching her movie appearance with a dark brown torso and deep orange curly hair, embodying the classic image of a mother. She brings to mind the character of Kate from the movie, who, despite accidentally leaving Kevin behind, does everything she can to reunite with him once she realizes her mistake. This highlights the humane and caring nature of a parent.

3.“Old Man” Marley

Old Man Marley comes with gray hair, a gray beard, and a gray snow shovel, perfectly capturing his distinctive features. His black outfit and facial expression also match his character.

Unfortunately, his “beardless” face isn’t a new print. In my opinion, the bushy beard piece seems a bit too fluffy, not entirely matching his movie image.

4.Marv Murchins

In the movie, this character has messy curls with a small tuft of frizzy hair around the edges. The hairpiece is well-sculpted but not curly. Apart from the hair, the minifigure is nearly perfect.

The best part of this figure is the iron burn mark on his alternate face. When I think of Marv Murchins, I definitely think of that “iron-faced” thief.

5.Harry Lyme

Harry and Marv form the bumbling burglar duo in the movie, and these minifigures capture the height difference between them. Both figures come with a wrench accessory.

The standout feature of Harry is his shiny gold tooth, an essential detail. He also comes with two hats—a knit cap and a police cap—reminiscent of his disguise at the beginning of the movie. His legs are medium-length, making him shorter than Harry but likely the same height as the Kevin minifigure.

Build

This modular building is mainly divided into the following parts: the OH-KAY plumbing and heating van, Kevin’s house, and the treehouse.

OH-KAY Plumbing and Heating Van

This iconic OH-KAY plumbing and heating van stays true to its original look, retaining the classic 6-stud-wide design. The van sports a blue-gray exterior, understated yet distinctive, with a recognizable OH-KAY logo sticker that immediately identifies it as Harry and Marv's getaway vehicle. The top of the van is thoughtfully designed—it can be easily removed and includes two pipes. Although there are no doors on the sides, the back door opens to reveal a bench that seats two, along with a stash of hidden loot.

However, there are a few minor disappointments. For instance, while the van’s proportions align well with the minifigures, there isn’t enough room for Harry and Marv to freely move their arms when seated inside. The side mirrors restrict arm movement, which is an unfortunate drawback for Marv.

When this model van appears alongside the two minifigures in a scene, it adds a great deal of fun, creating the feeling of the two bandits making a getaway. It’s a charming addition to the overall set.

Kevin’s House

1.Overview

At the heart of this set is the four-story McCallister house. The LEGO design team enhanced this building with rich exterior details: a beautifully arched doorway adorned with Christmas lights, windows with shutters, and a wreath on the front door, perfectly capturing the cozy holiday atmosphere of the movie. Surprisingly, some windows lack shutters, and the facade appears somewhat flat, lacking a third-dimensional feel.

Additionally, the house offers multiple points of entry. The front panel opens up like a dollhouse, and both the roof and parts of the first floor are removable. Even the kitchen and basement can be detached, making it easy to explore the detailed interior.

2.First Floor

The McCallister house is built on a solid foundation that includes some simple Technic gears. A long rod runs through the entire base with two 90-degree openings, allowing rotation later on for the "Christmas Party" play feature.

Overall, the base structure is very sturdy. The Technic gears are durable and didn’t jam during my testing. The front of the house features a window leading to the basement, adding a bit of Hollywood magic, as the “actual” basement is constructed separately.

Upon opening the front door to the first floor, a rich Christmas theme immediately sets the festive tone, with charming elements like a Christmas tree, candles, and fun stockings signaling the holiday spirit.

The first floor is divided into three distinct sections: the living room on the right, the hallway and staircase in the center, and the dining room on the left. Let’s take a closer look at each area.

(1) Living Room

In the center of the living room sits a train with a cardboard cutout of a basketball player, wearing a jersey that says "BRICKS 23." The train runs on a track, perfectly recreating the setup Kevin used to fool the burglars. Simply turning a button outside the house makes the train go around in circles.

The living room is filled with holiday cheer, including stockings hanging on the wall and two adorable white birds perched in the Christmas tree, with a star on top. There’s also a fun surprise under the tree: a gift box with a sticker featuring a miniature version of set 20330 on its front. This clever little detail adds a touch of cuteness.

Near the stairs, there are a few pairs of ice skates, representing the micro-machine trap Kevin set in the final scene, as well as some 1×1 round tiles used to represent glass shards under the windows—nice touches that fans will appreciate

(2) Hallway and Staircase

The front door is decorated with festive Christmas elements—a wreath in classic red and green. Opening the door, Kevin can be placed on a sled to slide out the front entrance by pressing a mechanism in the back. However, it’s a bit tricky to get him to slide perfectly through the door in one go.

At the foot of the stairs is a white arrow, capturing the lively moment when you can imagine Kevin minifigure’s tiny footsteps making their way down the stairs—a playful and lively touch.

(3) Dining Room

The dining room is filled with various items, creating a slightly crowded but cozy feel. The room includes a dining table, a grandfather clock, and the “feather trap” fan, all neatly arranged. The fan is stylishly designed, as are the chairs and table, which has lit candles on it, adding a warm family feel. The table also has a microwaveable macaroni and cheese meal, along with the grandfather clock showing 9:00 p.m., recalling the moment when Kevin prepares to put his battle plan into action. Additionally, the figure on the record player in the living room spins in sync with the train as it circles around.

Second Floor

The second floor is built on a simpler layered platform. At the top of the stairs, there’s a landing next to the stairwell leading up to the attic. The back wall features various windows and another interactive feature—a plunger knob.

This knob activates the collapsible shelf in Buzz’s bedroom. Pulling it removes the support rod beneath the hinged shelf, causing it to fold forward. Once locked in place, the top shelf droops slightly, but it’s not very noticeable.

(1) Buzz’s Bedroom

Moving up to the second floor, let’s take a look at Buzz’s room! The first thing you notice is Buzz’s light blue bed, which gives off a cozy, homey feel. Many classic elements from the movie are recreated here, including the shelf Kevin broke, the toy shotgun, and the box filled with various treasures—all thoughtfully color-coordinated to match Buzz’s style.

A key feature is the shelf, which can be pulled to activate an external mechanism, causing it to drop. Buzz’s girlfriend’s photo is hung on the wall, and when you open the box, you’ll find a heart, symbolizing Buzz’s affection for her.

The "KEEP OUT" sticker on the door perfectly captures the rebellious teenage spirit, and Buzz’s spider can be seen crawling out.

(2) Kevin’s Parents' Bedroom

Kevin’s parents' bedroom features more interesting furniture. There’s a four-poster bed, a nightstand with a lamp, and a tile with a 1×1 popcorn box design. What I find most interesting is the alarm clock on the nightstand set to 12:00, reminding me of the scene when the whole family overslept.

(3) Bathroom

The bathroom is another scene that’s faithfully recreated from the movie. It features a mirror with silver foil stickers that reflect your minifigure’s image. There are plenty of bathroom essentials, such as a toothbrush and a razor, and a small step stool that adds a playful touch. You can easily imagine Kevin standing on the stool brushing his teeth in his cute little moment.

Attic

When you lift the roof, you can directly access the attic, which is a bit cramped due to most of the space being taken up by the slanted roof.

In the movie, the attic is a place Kevin is very afraid of, and it's likely that no one goes in there. To emphasize its lack of traffic, LEGO has specially designed a large spider web. You can also spot some key elements from the movie, such as the blue checkered bed, and on the left side of the bed, there are parts with a battle plan sticker and a drink. On the right side, there’s a toy resembling a candy dispenser—though I’m not entirely sure what it is, it looks really fun.

Kitchen and Basement

If you pay close attention to the layout of the house in the movie, you may notice a few key locations are missing, such as the kitchen and basement. Unexpectedly, the house layout has been altered, and both have been moved to a secondary building at the back of the house. If you don’t turn to the back, you might not notice this. Now, the stairs leading to the basement are gone, and the door is now on the "ground floor," while the kitchen is accessed via a set of stairs. This is a compromise that works for the design.

The ice point in front of the door is recreated with satin-finished transparent blue tiles. There’s also an ice point on the stairs leading to the kitchen—this is a slight departure from the movie, as in the film, the ice was actually on the front steps.

(1) Kitchen

The kitchen is fully equipped with all sorts of kitchenware, including an island with a pizza delivery box, an oven, a refrigerator, and a TV playing the movie Angels with Filthy Souls. It’s reassuring to see that various traps used to deal with the burglars are faithfully recreated, including the flame thrower that burns Harry's wool cap and consumes his hair.

The kitchen door features a silver pet door, a new LEGO element. Opening this pet door humorously recreates Marv's head popping out of the doggie door.

There are also many cute stickers on the refrigerator door, including a picture of a dog, a New York travel guide, and a landscape painting—perhaps an Easter egg. Inside the fridge, there are two boxes of macaroni and cheese, the same as the food on the dining room table on the first floor.

(2) Basement

Here is the basement, but LEGO made some adjustments for product completeness. The basement is connected to the main house’s first floor, while the kitchen upstairs is connected to the second floor.

In the basement, there’s a monster-like black furnace. Opening its door and pressing the glowing brick inside creates a scene that simulates the furnace burning. To the right of the basement, there’s a washing machine and a toolbox, with a sticker of Marv’s sock on the floor.

At the back of the house, there’s also a trash can with Kevin’s plane ticket inside. The sticker reads “Adwind Airlines,” which is a playful twist, differing from the American Airlines product placement in the movie.

Tree House

The tree house in the backyard is not a particularly eye-catching place, but it is essential. The tree house perfectly reproduces the last plot of Kevin and the robbers' story - Kevin can take a zipline to reach the tree house in his backyard to thwart the robbers, adding a sense of adventure to the whole set.

You can also clearly observe that the tree house itself does not occupy a large area, but it has all the necessary parts, equipped with ladders, brick-built airplanes and Kevin's hang glider, and some more unusual parts, such as brown stems used to connect leaves.

At the same time, there is a rope connecting the tree house to the main house to ensure that the two accessories will not be easily separated. You can also put puppets on it to truly restore the movie scene.
